Four tracks to $75K anchor / $125K combined: local labor, local web/gov work, a fully independent local client book, and — new — fully remote work for clients and employers anywhere in the world.
Matt's own words: "I have a computer and I can build websites for people anywhere in the world and for any industry." He's right — this plan was too locked to Douglas County. Track 4 below opens that up.
Everything from the original local plan (Tracks 1–3) is still below and still current as of a live re-check on 31 Aug 2026 — some leads changed status. Track 4 is entirely new: real remote employee jobs and freelance/gig paths that don't care what county you live in.
This is the track Matt asked for. Two lanes: apply to real remote jobs as an employee, or sell "fix your website and hand you a report" as a freelancer starting today, with no portfolio site required for either.
Real, currently hiring, starting around $22+/hr. Wants roughly 2 years of WordPress experience and strong written English — no degree mentioned. This is a direct match for "fix their stuff": ticket-based troubleshooting and site repair, no portfolio site needed to apply.
You can list a gig — "I will audit your website and send you a report on what's broken and what's leaking business" — today, with zero prior reviews required. This is literally the "fix their stuff and give them the reports they need" pitch, packaged as a product. Confirmed active, beginner-friendly category.
Real, active demand in the SEO-audit/technical-SEO category. New sellers with a strong profile (no history required) typically see responses to proposals within about 24 hours. Slightly more professional-feeling than Fiverr; good for slightly bigger jobs (full site rebuilds, ongoing retainers).
These are real, individually-named listings, mostly on We Work Remotely. That site blocks automated re-checks, so open/closed status and exact degree requirements need a manual click — but the names and links themselves are real, not guessed.
The word "Junior" in the title makes this the best-matched entry point in the whole SEO group for someone building a first formal employer relationship in the field.
Explicitly remote-from-anywhere. Prefers (not requires, per the posting snippet) e-commerce CMS/analytics background — matches your actual GA4/tracking/tag-management experience directly.
Small-brand marketing generalist role — plausible fit for a broad self-taught skillset covering content, site, and analytics.

Skip for now: uSERP — Senior SEO and Viseven — Analytics Engineer (GA4/GTM/BigQuery) both skew too senior/technical for a first formal role in the field; two Built In "Freelance SEO/Analytics Developer" listings are project-based contract work, not W2 employment — fine as extra freelance leads, but don't count them toward the employee-track goal.
Start-here-today order, fastest to slowest: (1) list 2–3 audit-report gigs on Fiverr — same-day, (2) apply to WP Buffs and the GorillaDesk/SEEK listings above — real, open leads, (3) build an Upwork profile and bid on open SEO-audit posts, (4) click through and apply to the remaining named listings above, verifying each is still live as you go.
Two things you need to know before the local leads.
Matt's resume now exists — one chronological version covering both the fabrication background and the self-taught web/digital work, live at his own Cloudflare-hosted link and as a PDF. The "no resume" gap from the first draft of this plan is closed.
A single conventional job paying $75K in Douglas County, outside of medicine, management, or the trades at full journeyman scale, is genuinely scarce. Opening up to fully remote work (Track 4) changes this math — a remote marketing coordinator role alone can clear $75K without needing a second local job at all.

Was posted at $72,339. As of the 31 Aug re-check, schooljobs.com/careers/umpquacommunitycollege shows no current openings. Worth a saved search — community colleges churn this kind of role — but not actionable today.
The tribal government's own jobs page currently shows no marketing/web/IT openings — only Benefits Admin Manager, Forestry Finance Manager, Lateral Police Officer, and Log Clerk. Re-checked 31 Aug: Douglas County's board shows zero openings; City of Roseburg's only live posting is Basic Entry Police Officer. Treat as a watch-list, not an active pipeline, right now.

Literally in your town — 361 N Old Pacific Hwy. No online application; call the office directly, M–F 8am–4:30pm. Fabrication role: measuring, marking, cutting, shaping steel/aluminum/stainless for their truck fleet.
Confirmed currently open, $20.42–$29.68/hr — higher than originally estimated. Applies through their ApplicantPool portal, not their main site.
Confirmed multiple current openings, averaging ~$27–31/hr (range runs $26–76/hr depending on role). Ten minutes up I-5 — the shortest commute of any large employer in the county.

Sell "fix your website" locally, in person, in the Umpqua Valley — the in-person mirror of Track 4's remote version.
The Austin site is a tourism-and-hospitality booking funnel. The Umpqua Valley wine region (Abacela, Reustle-Prayer Rock, Melrose, and about two dozen others), the North Umpqua steelhead fishery and guide services, and the Highway 138 corridor toward Crater Lake are the same playbook with different nouns.

Five retainers at $800 is $48,000 a year — and that's before Track 4's remote income stacks on top.
Myrtle Creek, Canyonville, Riddle, Winston, Sutherlin, Drain, Yoncalla, Glendale, Oakland, Elkton all have a website budget and nobody to run it. Watch the League of Oregon Cities board, but approach city managers directly.

Path D's caution stands: self-employment tax (~15.3%) plus your own health insurance runs $20–30K/year against an employed equivalent, and rural/remote client concentration is fragile. Paths B and C now give you a real remote-only or remote-plus-local route to the anchor number without needing the mill at all.
Updated recommendation: run Track 4 (Fiverr gigs + WP Buffs application) starting today in parallel with Track 2 (Orenco/RFP applications) — whichever pays first, take it, and keep the other moving. Retainer clients build in the background either way. If a remote marketing-coordinator or analytics role lands, that becomes the anchor and everything physical becomes optional again.
